“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” ~ Rumi
For over 30 years, I’ve been blessed to work with many talented professionals who share my passions for the
hands-on healing arts and exquisite maternity and infant care. I offer a deep bow of gratitude to many colleagues
and pioneers in the touch, maternity and infant health care fields for the honor of studying and working alongside you.
I’ve also been inspired by and give thanks to the hundreds of mothers and families who I have had the honor to serve,
as well as many eager students from around the world. Thank you for being my greatest teachers!
I am passionate about improving maternity and newborn care, one pregnancy, one birth and one new family at a time. We can improve health care through listening deeply, trusting in collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork with massage therapists, doulas, health care leaders, physicians, midwives, nurses, and other skilled professionals for the best outcomes for mothers, babies and families.
To that cause in 2015, I founded Sanctuary Doulas, an interdisciplinary professional care team and in 2018, The Abundance Project – a non-profit 501(c)(3) to spread these seeds in my local Colorado community. In 2021, I fulfilled my dream to contribute in writing a book – Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapy – A comprehensive guide to prenatal, labor and postpartum practice 3rd edition (2021) with my gracious, talented co-authors Carole Osborne and David Lobenstine.
Another fulfilled dream was the opportunity to contribute to maternal health research on the benefits of postpartum doula care for BIPOC mothers, supported by a federal research award through the NIH IMPROVE Initiative. I’m currently collaborating with DONA International on a postpartum doula training for rural Colorado.
I’ve retired from Sanctuary Doulas ownership and administrative roles to return to my roots at Sanctuary Healing Arts with teaching online and in-person across the country while enjoying a small home studio practice. I continue to provide my in-person birth and postpartum doula care. If I can be of service to you or your organization or to request my CV, please contact me.
Blessings to you,
Michele
I love livin' in Colorado, playin’ my mandolin, tappin’ my toes to bluegrass music, hikin’ in knee-high summer mountain wildflowers to glacial lakes for a cold plunge, surfing in my 50’s, watching basketball (go Carolina Tarheels and Denver Nuggets!), gardening, and witnessing my sons growing into remarkable young men. Can you tell I grew up in North Carolina?
Surfin' at 50+ in Punta Pita, Mexico ... Cowabunga!
Go Nuggets! Lovin' another winning game in Denver with my son Kyle ...
Enjoyin' the holidays with Santa AKA my mother "Grannie Annie" with her grandsons Kyle and Jackson ...
Beautiful hikin' to Isabelle Lake with dear friends ... no cold plunge today though!
